2008 Student Weekend

APM's 3rd Student Activity Weekend – April 18th to 20th

Uplands conference centre, High Wycombe

APM are organising an event for the benefit of postgraduate project management students.

The teams in actionThe weekend will take the form of an ‘Apprentice’ style challenge. Five teams of 4 postgraduate students will each be given a budget of £100 with which to buy items to then sell on the following day at a car-boot fair/flea-market/jumble sale etc; the overall objective being to raise £50.00 profit which would be donated to Oxfam to fund a loan for someone in Africa to start their own business.

Each team will call upon their project management knowledge and experiences to develop a workable proposal which will need to be approved by an experienced project sponsor. Teams will have contact with the sponsor prior to the weekend to help develop the bulk of the plan prior to its implementation over the weekend. The order of events will follow the project lifecycle from the identification phase through to the post-project evaluation.

The project proposalAccommodation, food, van hire (if necessary), and the £100.00 budget will be provided by APM. It is required that at least one member of the team holds a driving license, which is also valid for driving a minibus, or else has their own transport which he/she would be willing to use over the weekend.

This weekend promises to be both informative and enjoyable, and will give project management students vital experience in the practical application of theory.

If your university would be interested in taking part, if you know of any institutions who would be interested in taking part, please contact owain.wilson@apm.org.uk
