The Benefits of CharteredThe hallmarks of a project management profession are in place: recognised qualifications and experience; breadth and depth of knowledge supported by a professional competence framework and continuing CPD; the commitment to the profession and the protection which are offered by a code of professional conduct and robust complaints and disciplinary procedures. These are supported by growing numbers of academic courses in project management and increasing numbers of people making project management their career of first choice. Why APM? With more than 18,000 members and over 10,000 people taking APM’s qualifications every year, APM has developed considerable maturity and influence since its foundation in 1972 – whether attracting increasing numbers of high quality entrants to our annual awards programme, participating in standards development such as BSI and ISO, or developing knowledge through the work of APM Specific Interest Groups. As an educational charity, our role as standard setters for the profession is explicitly endorsed by the 50 organisations – comprising major government departments, professional bodies and blue-chip corporate organisations - who have formally supported our application for chartered status.
