Certificated Project Manager

The Certificated Project Manager qualification is no longer open to new applications with effect from 31st December 2011.

Is the Certificated Project Manager (CPM) qualification still valid?
Absolutely. Anyone awarded the CPM qualification (IPMA Level B) has demonstrated a high level of competence across the entire project life cycle and it will continue to maintain an individual's status in the market.

What does the CPM qualification represent?
This qualification verifies the experience candidates have gained via an assessment process against specific criteria, which culminates in a peer interview.

Who was it for?
Individuals who gained extensive experience in the use of project management disciplines throughout their career and who managed several projects from start to finish. Experience of the complete project lifecycle was required.

What was assessed?
The individual's project management competencies were assessed including:

  • Personal qualities: professional attitude, leadership skills, independent judgement, communication skills, vision, flexibility and self awareness.
  • Project management understanding and practice: appropriate use of tools, techniques and methodologies, commercial acumen, problem solving and stakeholder management.

I am a highly experienced project professional. How can I now demonstrate my experience and competence?
The APM Registered Project Professional standard has been designed for you. It reflects your capabilities as a responsible leader, your ability to manage a complex project and your use of appropriate tools, processes and techniques.

I have the CPM qualification. How can I become an APM Registered Project Professional?
APM have created a fast-track route to APM Registered Project Professional (RPP) for holders of the CPM qualification.  In recognition of the work and effort that goes into obtaining CPM, APM have specifically designed a way for holders of this IPMA Level B qualification to obtain the new pan-sector standard. Specific guidance notes and an application form have been created, which can be requested from APM.
