The Road to Professionalism
Chartered status is the association’s top priority. To achieve this we are engaging directly with the decision-makers in government, whilst maintaining our “dignified silence” in public.
We continue to build momentum in creating a recognised and valued profession through increasing awareness of the APM 5 Dimensions of Professionalism amongst both organisations and individuals.
Chartered status timetable
January 2007: The APM Board resolved to embark on a programme for the association to achieve Chartered Status, to become chartered as an organisation and to operate a register of Chartered practitioners.
November 2007: At the APM Annual General Meeting, members voted unanimously to approve the motion to petition for a charter and to create a register of practitioners.
April 2008: Our preliminary application was made to the Privy Council.
October 2008: A formal application was submitted to the Privy Council and duly gazetted in line with the recognised application process. No objections to the application were received during the gazetting process.
May 2009: Working group was formed to develop the Chartered Project Professional Standard.
August 2009: Influencing campaign continues with the support of key supporters from the corporate community and within government.
October 2009: APM Conference hosts the heads of profession of all major government departments and 120 delegates from the public sector project management community.
January 2010: APM launches its five dimensions of professionalism website along with its new professional online community.
April 2010: APM embarks on a pilot for a new Registered Project Professional standard.
May 2010: APM chief executive Andrew Bragg is interviewed in Project magazine reconfirming the association’s commitment to Chartered status, its commitment to the development of project management standards and the launch of the Registered Project Professional Standard.
June 2010: Announcement that APM has embarked on its programme to refresh the APM Body of Knowledge, Competence Framework and APM qualifications.
August 2010: APM announces the introduction of a new route to its APMP qualification recognising prior learning for those PRINCE2® Registered Practitioners
October 2010: APM launches a preview of its new website.
November 2010: APM announces launch of its new Registered Project Professional Standard.
January 2011: Body of Knowledge 6th edition authoring commissioned.
March 2011: APM new website launched.
March 2011: Registered Project Professional standard launched.
