- 13th May 1972, a group of esteemed British engineers and managers meet at the INTERNET World Congress conference in Stockholm, Sweden to form INTERNET UK
- June 1972 INTERNET UK successfully attracts its first 100 members
- July 1975 Bulletin – Project Manager was first published
- July 1975 INTERNET UK changes its name to Association of Project Managers and becomes a limited company
- 1979 first corporate member, Heriot Watt University, joins APM
- 1982 APM membership reaches 1,000
- 1985 launches first annual dinner
- 1987 APM membership reaches 2,000
- 1992 launches first annual awards
- 1992 launches the APM Certificated Project Manager® qualification
- 1992 APM membership reaches 5,000
- 1995 launches its CPD scheme
- 1996 Name is changed to Association for Project Management
- 1996 APM launches its APMP® qualification
- 1998 First meeting of the APM Professional Development Board
- 1998 APM membership reaches 10,000
- 2000 APM Body of Knowledge 4th Edition published
- 2001 APM membership reaches 15,000
- 2003 APM launches the APM Practitioner Qualification®
- 2003 APM Publishing formed
- 2004 APM launches the Introductory Certificate in Project Management®
- 2004 APM launches its first annual debate
- 2005 APM’s 2nd generation website launched
- 2005 APM launches its new brand identity
- 2006 APM Body of Knowledge 5th Edition published
- 2006 Change in governance structure as the Council and Executive Board becomes the Board of Trustees.
- 2007 APM Competence Framework published
- 2007 APM launches the APM Project Management Conference.
- 2008 APM moves into new offices at Ibis House, Bucks.
