Scoresheets The scoresheets below will give you an indication of the criteria against which your entry will be judged, and the weighting which each criteria carries in the total score.

Criteria The criteria for these awards are based upon the APM Body of Knowledge, 5th edition, and the APM Project Risk Analysis and Management Guide. For the Project Manager of the Year and the Young Project Manager of the year awards, the focus is very much on the personal qualities of the individual, regardless of the project. These project managers are expected to demonstrate a range of characteristics. A sample set of judging criteria are shown on the judges’ score sheets for each of the awards and these can be found at the top of this page. The criteria for each award is shown on the score sheets. These scoresheets show the categories judged, the topics within each criterion, the marking and the subsequent weighting of the assessment. Examination and understanding of the relevant scoresheet will assist entrants considerably in presenting their submission in the best possible manner. Both the APM Body of Knowledge and the APM Project Risk Analysis and Management Guide are available from APM Publishing.
Stage 1 For stage 1 of this year’s awards, judges are looking for a short overview of the project. The same project and its material may not be submitted as the basis for entry into more than one award category in the year. Entries for this stage are expected to be some 2500 words of single spaced A4 plus any supporting images or diagrams. Entry at stage 1 should include the following information (the project management items all being with relevance to the APM Body of Knowledge or Project Risk Analysis and Management Guide headings as indicated on the score sheets):
- Name of the entrant
- Name of category entered
- Contact address
- Contact telephone
- Contact email
For the Geoffrey Trimble and Herbert Walton academic awards an overview of the research project is required. The same project and its material may not be submitted as the basis for entry into more than one Award category in the year. Entries for this stage are expected to be no more than 2500 words on single spaced A4 plus any supporting images or diagrams. Judges will be looking for:
- Clearly articulated aims and objectives
- Robust research methodology
- Clarity of understanding of the relevant literature
- Analysis of the primary data
- Conclusions which reflect the aims and objectives
- How the work contributes to the project management discipline.
The overview should be compiled to bring out how the project contributes to the discipline of project management.
The Sir Monty Finniston Award is by nomination only. This particular award utilises a single stage entry process. The nominator has to submit a summary of the nominee’s case for consideration to a special APM judging panel, one that is different from the panel that judges all the other practitioner and academic awards. This case should state the candidate’s worthiness for consideration for this award most carefully as further correspondence in any one year will not be entertained. A nomination is expected to be up to some four sides of single spaced A4. Nominees for this award may be submitted for any number of years for consideration, although only once in any one year.
Submitting your entry Email your entry to awards@apm.org.uk, Or send it to: Awards Panel, Association for Project Management, Ibis House, Summerleys Road, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, HP27 9LE All stage 1 entries should be submitted in electronic format by email, CD or floppy disk (maximum file size 5MB).
Stage 2 Selected entrants, not normally more than three per category, will be informed they are finalists and invited to submit a stage 2 submission. For this stage of the awards, judges are expecting a full entry about the project. Entries for this stage are expected to be some 8,000/10,000 words plus any illustrations, photos and animations that help support the entry. These should be submitted in electronic format by email, CD or floppy disk (maximum file size 5MB). In addition to this all finalists will need to submit audio-visual material (images of the project/project manager, company logo etc) for use at the awards presentation dinner. The judges are looking for an account of an outstanding rise to challenge, tenacity in the face of obstacles and flair in documenting their work as a project manager. All judging criteria are based on the APM Body of Knowledge and the Project Risk Analysis and Management Guide. However, qualities not included in the current APM Body of Knowledge but demonstrated by the entrant as essential in project management will be given credit. The submission will also be assessed in terms of:
- Clarity & succinctness
- Presentational quality
- Communication
For the Geoffrey Trimble and Herbert Walton awards the stage 2 submission should also be of the length outlined above. Submitting your full dissertation etc is allowed but should this be in excess of the above guidelines in size then a full summary of this stated length is required. Again it should be compiled to bring out as much of the APM Body of Knowledge and/or Project Risk Analysis and Management Guide as one is able, utilising the above guidelines.
The stage 2 entry is to be emailed to: awards@apm.org.uk, Or sent to: Awards Panel, Association for Project Management, Ibis House, Summerleys Road, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, HP27 9LE
The announcement of the winners will be made at the APM Project Management Awards dinner and presentation on 21st October at the Brewery, London. Printer Friendly Page
