PresidentCC3 - The Eassential Trustee: What you need to know Good Governance - A Code for the Voluntary and Community Sector National Occupational Standards for Trustees Directors and Secretaries Guide President, Dr Martin Barnes He is a trailblazing, experienced project manager and author, he has presented papers at many international conferences and has lectured all over the world. He has also talked about project management on TV and radio and has designed and run training courses. Whilst studying for his doctorate at UMIST, Dr Barnes was able to demonstrate the value of integrating the project control areas of time, cost and quality making the classic triangular model of project control universally known today. He became one of the first to sign up to the fledgling APM when it was formed in 1972 and has contributed his knowledge and experience to the development of the profession. As the Association’s chairman (1986-91) he saw the foundations laid for the Certificated Project Manager qualification, introduced in 1992, and helped to establish the APM’s regional branch network – a key strength that the Association still enjoys today. 'APM has a major influence on and is the custodian of a distinctive professional activity which is applicable across all areas of human activity' said Dr Barnes, adding that he aims to use his presidency to offer challenging suggestions about the development of project management and the Association’s role within it.
