APM Code of Professional Conduct

APM is committed to encouraging and developing the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics in all stakeholders involved in projects. APM maintains accountability in project management practice through its code of professional conduct.

Project professionals make an effective contribution in all sections of society through their commitment to the five dimensions of professionalism. The APM Code of Professional Conduct sets out the standards of conduct expected by those working in the profession. All APM members commit to the code when they join the association.

The code was developed by the APM Professional Conduct Committee following consultation both within and outside the profession. It was approved by the APM membership at its AGM.

How it works

The Code of Professional Conduct is managed by the Professional Conduct Committee working with the APM Chief Executive. The committee works to ensure that APM fulfils its responsibilities to the public interest by applying and enforcing the code in a proper manner where apparent breaches or non compliances are identified. This will allow APM to build public trust and reassurance in the project management profession.

Professional and personal decisions and actions are the responsibility of the individual; the code is a tool to help in the decision making process. As the profession changes and develops, or society’s expectations alter, the code will be amended to suit.

The APM Code of Professional Conduct and complaint forms can be found below. All correspondence should be addressed in the first instance to the Chief Executive on the appropriate form.

Contact us

Just as APM takes complaints seriously it also would like to hear from those who have had a successful relationship with APM members. We encourage recognition and reward for outstanding professional conduct thorough our awards schemes, publications and appointment of Honorary Fellows. We invite these inputs, addressed to the Chief Executive.

When to use the disciplinary process

The disciplinary process relates specifically to apparent breaches in the Code of Professional Conduct. For other complaints and concerns, please contact the APM Company Secretary.
