This year teams from postgraduate project management courses all over Britain are invited to enter a team to represent them at the APM Student Challenge. The event is now in its fourth successive year with teams undertaking the challenging task of making a profit of £25 from a budget of £100 by implementing a pre-planned project to buy and sell items from car boot fairs and charity shops, over the course of a weekend. The event takes place in the Uplands Conference Centre, High Wycombe, Bucks.
The focus of the weekend is not only the money raised during the challenge, but also the skills of each team at managing a project through its lifecycle. From the planning through to the implementation and benefits realisation this challenge is a practical test of a team’s ability to effectively manage a project and see ideas on paper turn into reality.
Each team will have the benefit of project advisors who will be able to provide valuable guidance throughout the planning and implementation of the projects, and ultimately assessed by a panel of judges to determine who will win the challenge and ultimately the John Edge Trophy. Teams will also receive a vehicle, food and accomodation over the course of the weekend.
New for this year, teams are invited to take part in a preliminary round in order to qualify for the final event. Each team will submit a proposal for their project which will be assessed by the judging panel. The best 5 proposals will then progress to the final to develop their project plan and take part in the event itself.
