Young project manager of the year 2008
Iain Heath When offered the chance to get involved with an infrastructure project and work abroad, Iain Heath of Turner & Townsend jumped at the chance to manage the Dublin Airport Terminal 1 extension (T1X) project. The €50m extension, designed to boost passenger capacity from 23.5 million to 30 million per year, may seem like a daunting proposal for a young project manager but according to Garret Dorman, Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) workstream manager, Iain was more than equal to the challenge. “Iain is excellent at co-ordination of both the project office and the project team on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis,” he said. “He is meticulous in his methods of addressing issues that may cause disruption and affect the smooth running of the project.” One of the key aims of the new 7,500 sq ft project was to brighten the passenger experience. This involved transforming dark and narrow departure routes into a clear and spacious concourse linking the existing terminal. On receiving the accolade (after remembering to text to his mum first) Iain said: “It’s just absolutely overwhelming to win this award. I said it in my report and I say it again now, it’s a team effort and there are a lot of people who put a lot of effort in and I hope this reflects their efforts as well as mine.”
