Dear Colleagues
I have recently moved to Doha to take up a position as Director PMO for the implementation of the National Health Strategy. Is there an active APM group in Qatar?
Thanks Rob
Hi Rob
There isn't an active group at the moment but we do have 29 members in Qatar at the moment so there is the potential for some type of APM activity there.
I'd be interested to hear about the type of activity that you think would be helpful.
One of our senior managers was in Qatar recently with one of our major corporate members talking to the Qatar establishment about how project management skills can be improved in the region and this may spawn some future activity if it develops.
Dear David
Thanks for the response. I would certainly support the setting up of a local group. Despite all the projects being prosecuted around me, I am feeling a little professionally isolated. With respect to activities, there are the usual suspects:
- technical talks
- project visits / briefings
It would also be nice to understand the training and development opportunities being offered in Qatar. I have a large institutional development task, and an active professional association would be very helpful. I recently visited Project Qatar and there was nothing of this ilk.
I'd be happy to serve on a committee or whatever if you felt there was mileage.

Hi Rob
We'd be interested in trying to facilitate some local activity along the lines that you mention above. We have some experience in trying to do this in Jersey and Switzerland and we really struggled to gain critical mass and create something that endured. We tend to find (in common with many organisations) that only around 10% of registered people / members actually actively take part in any activity. With only 29 people registered this would suggest only 2 or 3 being willing to take part.
What do you think about trying to initiate an informal meeting of local members to try and gauge initial interest and get some further ideas. I'd be happy to circulate something to the 29 people we have registered and then perhaps back this up with harnessing peoples local networks?
Hi Colleagues,
Similar to Rob, I was interested to find out if there is an active APM group in Qatar. From previous posts its seems like it would be up to us start the Qatar APM network.
Is there a way a local Qatar APM network can be setup for us to contact members based in Qatar.
Regards
David
Hi David
As I said in my post above, if an informal local group was set up we would be happy to circulate this to our members in the region. It could be that we start with something like a local networking group and then build interest from there and look to do some of the other things that Robert mentioned.
Happy to discuss further.
Hi all,
I have recently submitted an application for a full membership at APM.
I am a local Qatari engineer with vast engineering and project management experience started my working career back to 1984 and had the pleasure of serving in various government and semi-government sectors over 21 years and now running a locall project development & construction company since 2005.
I am pleased to learn there are some 29 members of APM here in Qatar, with which it would be really interesting to form a small forum thet we all can contribute to by participation, exchanginge views & experiences, and hold informal meetings. It is also my interest to invite members to take part in various activities held by the Society of Qatari Engineers.
Will be happy to receive your thoughts and views on above.
Regards,
Ahmad
Hi Ahmad
Thanks for the response. I'd be happy to include any events from the Society of Qatari Engineers on our website if they have relevence to our P3 community. Please send any details directly to me.
David
Dear Ahmad
Thank you for the note. I am also a Chartered Engineer and would be interested in attending events from the Society of Qatari Engineers. There is also a small IEAust group in Doha.

Perhaps Amad, David A and myself could coordinate a discussion around setting up a local group? Would you be able to send out invites to the other local members?
Thank you
Rob Moorhead
Hi Rob
Yes, I'd be happy to circulate details of an initial discussion / meeting if you can let me have some words and details.
David
