Professional Qualification

I intend to enrol on a course which will provide me with a qualification which reflects my experience (about 20 years in refurbishment, small construction and fit-out projects), is appropriate to my work sector and is well recognised by potential client bodies - mainly commercial, plc and private organisaitons.  Does anyone have a view on the specific benefits of the options available - APMP, Prince2 and PMP?  I would opt for APMP - but I'm interested in how the different options compare or differ.

Any views or comments?

Hi Joyce

There's a few strands to my answer here;

As you have 20 years experience I wonder whether a higher level qualification than the one you list may be more helpful. An example could be the APM Practitioner Qualification (PQ) or APM Registered Project Professional. PQ is at a higher level (grade c)  in the IPMA certification scale than the ones you list and takes practical experience into account.

If you do want to stick to the ones you list then I think you should consider the following;

PRINCE2 is the most commonly held qualification and is perhaps more well known than the others you list.

APMP covers a much larger syllabus than PRINCE2 (registered P2 holders get an exemption from some parts of APMP to recognise prior learning) and will give you a much deeper understanding of the profession.

PMP is more well known than the other 2 in certain parts of the world such as the USA. In the UK APMP is more common so which you take may depend on where your potential client bodies are based.

For an independent view on the differences between P2 and APMP I would recommend this blog from Arras People

Hope this helps
