Tools for assessing the value of CPD to organistations
Posted by Edward Wallington PhD on 1 April, 2011 - 11:31
Hi All,
Is anyone aware of any tools/information on assessing the value/pay-back of CPD for organisations?
Are there any examples, case studies, other information that demonstrates the value of organistations supporting thier employees to undertake CPD and to brign this new knowledge back into the organisation to provide wider benefits?
Thanks,
Ed

Hello Ed. Per my tweets, I thought I'd put all the information sent over on here as well so you have it all in one place.
'Measuring the impact of CPD on employers' (2010); quite a hefty micro study with a HEI to employer CPD focus but sections 6+7 may be helpful http://www.cfe.org.uk/uploaded/files/CFE_Micro%20Study%20Measuring%20the%20impact%20of%20CPD%20on%20employers.pdf
CIPD carry out a lot of research and surveys on CPD and impacts on various parties. The overview of their 2010 surveys may be a good starting point, highlighting trends and prospects for 2011 (2010) http://www.cipd.co.uk/hr-resources/survey-reports/cipd-surveys-overview-hr-trends-prospects-2011.aspx
PARN do a lot of research with professional bodies and their employer groups on CPD http://www.parnglobal.com/continuing-professional-development.htm (2007-2010). Their latest ongoing piece of research is around compulsory CPD and is not yet published, but the 2008 IFAC 'Approaches to Continuing Professional Development Measurement' may be of interest, although more of a professional body perspective than employer specific point of view.
I will let you know of anything else that may be of interest, and do get in touch if you have any queries.
Esther
Thanks Esther, much appreciated. Thanks for the quick response!
