How do people react and behave during an emergency?

Members of the APM East of England branch were awarded funding recently by APM to carry out a study tour and spent an interesting 2 days in Norway with the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation (NDLO) looking at how they manage and train for their medical evacuation capability.

In November 2011 the team headed off to Setermoen in North Norway (below) to meet with the NDLO. AeroMEDical EVACuation (Medevac) refers to the extraction of injured persons from conflict zones and disaster environments. In this presentation Neil Gee and Sam Storrar will provide an insight into how the NDLO approach training for medical evacuation operations. The study tour presented the opportunity to observe, at first hand, training exercises and meet with the team to understand the culture and behaviours that help to deliver such a vital capability. The visit also enabled the team to review aspects of the Assurance SIG’s assessment toolkit and provide some valuable feedback on its implementation.

Neil Gee is Head of Project Management at Marshall Aerospace responsible for project management policy, process, governance and development. Prior to this role Neil has managed a number of projects in aerospace and defence from bid stage through, development, design, manufacture, test and delivery.

Sam Storrar is a project manager at Marshall Aerospace responsible for the delivery of a mix of military and commercial projects. More recently Sam has worked with the NDLO to install a full role change modification that turns a standard commercial aircraft interior into a flying hospital in a matter of hours.
