How do you make project management a permanent and valued part of an organisation, when projects themselves are, by their very nature, temporary? This presentation would suit project management professionals at intermediate and advance level.
In this thought provoking talk, Tony Teague looks at some unresolved issues in the project profession. Exploring topical issues such as competency, qualification and career paths, Tony draws on his extensive experience to suggest why it may be that project management departments continue to fluctuate in size and corporate importance, and project success can often remain an elusive goal.
How real is the conflict between operational and project priorities, and how close are we to resolving this? Why do Boards tend to have detailed knowledge on operational issues, but an inadequate grasp of project information to support both their capital and human investments?
Tony will explore these and other issues, drawing attention to popular career paths and patterns and asking whether organisations are doing enough to keep experienced project personnel, and considering development routes that could take project professionals right to the very top.
