From time to time APM hold events with other professional organisations. We are fortunate enough to have an event on Tuesday 13th March with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with a prominent speaker - Alastair Dutton of the Crown Estate. The last joint event with IMechE was extremely popular with over 100 attendees and one of the highest ever satisfaction scores.

This event is at a popular venue close to High Wycombe and only 10 mins from Junction 4 of the M40. See details of the event below and register early to avoid disappointment.

This event, run jointly by IMechE and APM Chiltern Chapter, will provide a fascinating update on the technical and project progress of offshore wind power.

As managers of the seabed out to the 12 nautical miles limit, The Crown Estate plays a major role in the development of the offshore wind energy industry in the UK.

The burgeoning offshore wind industry is set to become a major UK manufacturing activity, bringing significant new inward investment, businesses and jobs. To help make sure this industry realises its full potential, the Crown Estate is taking a proactive approach. This ranges from engaging with statutory and non-statutory bodies, regulators, trade associations, local and national governments and representatives of the shipping, aviation and fisheries industries, to holding supply chain events for both offshore wind and wave and tidal projects.

Encouraging the growth of this new industry and supporting developers are key components of The Crown Estate's strategy, and has seen exponential growth in activity. By supporting developers as they harness the potential of offshore wind through some of the largest infrastructure projects in the world, this can provide valuable jobs to local communities as well as underpin the Government's commitment to renewable energy and a reduction in CO2 levels, together with an increase in energy security.

Alastair Dutton is Programme Manager at The Crown Estate and leads the Round 3 offshore wind team. His career has been dedicated to low carbon and renewable energy, including roles in research, projects, marketing and operations. Following 15 years at BP he joined The Crown Estate in 2008.

Building on the timely signing of the Round 3 agreements, Alastair took the business operational in 2010. A team of over twenty five people is now working directly with the nine zone partners and leading national enabling initiatives.

Additionally he is responsible for strategic workstreams and supply chain - all with the aim of facilitating a fast growing offshore wind industry that delivers at scale.

IMechE members wishing to attend should book by email.
