Honorary Fellow to speak at IPMA World Congress

David ShannonHonorary Fellow of APM and founder of the Governance Specific Interest Group (SIG) David Shannon will present a peer reviewed professional paper at the 26th IPMA World Congress, which opens in Crete on 29th October 2012.

With a theme of governance in the UK and beyond, David will update the international audience on work by the APM Governance SIG since his past presentation at PM-Greece in May 2010. Highlights include; the 2011 APM Study Tour of Norway and UK investigating portfolio direction which resulted in a new model for exploring governance effectiveness, Sponsoring Change the latest influential publication by the group, as well as the revision and relaunch of Directing Change. He will also mention the APM Governance SIG’s outreach and benchmarking initiatives.

Governance of project management is a topic in which the APM has led international thinking. Russian speaking countries already have a translation available of Sponsoring Change. He expects to bring back news of other countries’ relevant efforts. Of particular relevance is the IPMA work on its Delta Base Line Project aimed at producing a tool for assessing organisational competence of which governance is one of the four proposed dimensions.

David is principal of Oxford Project Management Limited through which he has been involved in governance issues internationally. He was appointed onto the Scientific Committee of Congress so David has reviewed and commented on several other speakers’ papers.

The 26th IPMA World Congress will include opening plenary sessions, professional presentations and discussions sessions along 14 different themes (tracks), seven special sessions on important current aspects of project management, opening welcome reception, networking lunches and breaks, a world-class exhibition of PM-related products and services, and a spectacular gala banquet.
