Profile of a project manager
Name: Edwina Hayward
Membership grade: Associate Member
Job title: Principal Consultant
Company: BMT Hi-Q Sigma Ltd
Why did you become a member of APM? To ensure that I can keep up with the latest thinking, best practice and also get the point of view from other sectors and those with different experiences.
How did you get into project management? Purely by accident, the dream was always to be a fighter pilot but that failed due to the rigorous eye tests so I ended up applying to every engineering company in and around Bath and happened upon BMT.
What would be your top tip to any aspiring project manager? Stand up for what you believe, don’t get talked out of things easily.
Describe yourself in ten words or less: always looking for a challenge, problem solver, helpful, sociable.
If you had to spend the rest of your life on a desert island, what album, book, film and luxury item would you take with you? Album would have to be Paul Weller, modern classics – it got me through my university revision, Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice is a book I can read over and over again, my film would have to be love actually, it always makes me laugh, and my luxury item would have to be my hair straightners (along with a power supply) as I can’t live without them.
If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why? Margaret Thatcher as I would be really interested to get her take on being a women in a predominantly man’s world, alternatively my Granddads as I didn’t get to meet them.
