NEC3 Engineering - THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY SUBSCRIBEDDate: 17/11/2008Event organiser: APM South Wales and West of England Branch Under traditional forms of contract, project changes and variations often cause disputes, claims, delays and cost overruns in the construction industry. The NEC Engineering & Construction Contract, initially published in March 1993, is designed to promote good management practice of construction projects and improve the change management process. It encourages partnering and collaboration between all parties of a project, as demanded by Sir Michael Latham and Sir John Egan. Many professionals who are new to this form of contract find managing communications in NEC projects challenging. The Contract Change Management (CCM) system is an Internet based service, provided by MPS Ltd, which supports communications of NEC contract change management processes. It is currently being used by a wide range of clients on civil, power and building projects. In March 2006, MPS teamed up with the University of the West of England (UWE) and secured funding from DTI’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme. This two year research project has measured the benefits of CCM in helping NEC/ECC projects save costs and reduce risks. This event will provide an authoritative introduction to the NEC, together with a Q&A session, by a leading expert and a demonstration on how the CCM system helps to improve communications and change management processes in NEC projects. It will also disseminate the findings of the UWE’s research into the benefits and costs of using web-based IT communications systems to enhance contract management both generally and more specifically under the NEC3 Engineering & Construction Contract using MPS’s Contract Change Management system. Dr Jon Broome is the managing consultant of leading edge cc ltd and Chair of the APM’s Contract & Procurement SIG. He has been involved in the NECs development since 1993, his contribution being recognised in the contract, and has written, consulted and trained on it on an international basis. Robin Wilkin is a Fellow of the APM, and previous APM Deputy Chairman. He is also a Director of MPS, having being involved in the CCM system’s development since its inception. MPS are members of Constructing Excellence and Corporate Members of APM. For further information on CCM, go to www.mpsprocess.com. This event is being sponsored by MPS. Professor Ming Sun is the Director of Construction and Property Research Centre at the University of the West of England. He has undertaken many research projects on IT applications in construction and project change management in recent years. He is also closely involved with Constructing Excellence South West.
