Rod has had first-hand direct experience in all key project roles, having started as a project planner and progressed through various roles into project management of systems development. He established his own project management consultancy company which carried out a variety of consultancy assignments for private and public sector clients, including MoD, Krupp Polysius, William Press Offshore, Unisys and Racal Telecom. Rod also developed a range of training courses in every aspect of project management and successfully delivered these to over 350 companies.
Rod then worked for several specialist companies in project and programme management, as well as delivering education programmes. Clients included British Rail, Docklands Light Railway, Nuclear Electric, DHL, CMG, and NatWest.

As a practising project manager, Rod is aware of the pressures that confront project managers daily and will work to get APM to support them effectively.
- Rod is currently a director and trustee of APM and has been in most of the past 15 years.
- He is a non-executive director of APM Group who achieved recognition in 2012 in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100; The Queens Award for Enterprise; Investors in People Gold and in 2013 were featured in the Sunday Times 200 Fasted Growing companies.
- He is a director of GAPPS who have developed globally accepted standards for project manager and programme manager performance
- He is a director of his own project and programme management consultancy
As one of the earliest members of APM (007), Rod is passionate about the principles and motives of APM and has the time to help drive through the change required for APM to be stronger in Europe and more accessible to members. Coupled with his breadth and depth of project/programme/portfolio experience, Rod aims to add real value to the APM Board.
Through his activities with GAPPS, APMG, PMI and the professional activities of APM, Rod has a unique insight into developments and issues in the PPPM world.
Rods experience across a diverse range of industry and commercial enterprise, has given him extensive insight into the application of best practice in project management, in achieving successful project outcomes, so he appreciates the issues most practicing project managers face.
This combination of knowledge, experience and competence, plus Rods willingness to raise and seek answers to difficult questions, will be a positive contribution to the strategic thinking within APM.
