Finalists - PMO of the Year Award 2022

Rewarding the commitment of portfolio, programme and project management offices (PMOs) to developing not only their organisation across all facets of project management but also their emerging industry through innovative and thoughtful ways of working. 

This category is designed for those PMOs that want to stand out as a beacon of driving project success and project management maturity in the way that they enable their organisations to deliver successful and sustainable change, develop project community and challenge themselves to become trusted business partners. 

The judges are looking for evidence of a PMO’s positive contribution to their organisation, delivery of consistent and demonstrable outcomes and development of the project management capability and community.  

We require entrants to this category to produce a submission of up to 3,000 words detailing how they have met the judging criteria. Entrants may also submit up to four supporting images or graphics only (no text apart from captions). Video and audio is not accepted as part of the submission. 

The PMO of the year award consists of two stages, the first stage is the written submission mentioned above and the second stage requires all finalists to present virtually to a panel of judges. It is open to organisations across all sectors globally.

PROJECT: Atkins Virtual Digital PMO, Atkins

The Atkins Virtual Digital PMO is successfully delivering consistent benefits using a strong combination of proven and novel tools and techniques. The PMO has a strong focus on professional developing, provides a wide range of functions and governs over 200+ concurrent project delivering £60M+ annual revenue. The PMO is Virtual in that it operates in a wholly Virtual environment while making use of home and office locations across the UK, and Digital by exploiting advanced digital tools to enable highly effective team work.

Infrastructure PMO

Heathrow’s vision has been to create a digitally enabled PMO function that sets the benchmark for how major programmes will be delivered in the future. A PMO that drives innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, provides insight, and develops a capability and talent pool that will leave a legacy for project delivery at Heathrow and across the industry. They have played an instrumental role in helping Heathrow recover from the pandemic enabling them to significantly increase their capital expenditure with constrained resources, and ensuring they are fit and ready for the next capital investment period and new regulatory model.

Launched in March 2020 the Openreach Transformation PMO is a portfolio, programme & project management office supporting the delivery of the Fibre and Network Delivery (FND) transformation strategy to enable a £0.5bn cost reduction whilst improving service, customer and colleague experience. The PMO vision and strategy were co-created with our business stakeholders and the PMO has been on a transformation of its own. Evolving its maturity, iterating its delivery lifecycle, increasing its service offering, automating previously manual reporting to now support the full portfolio and its 6 programmes and over 200 projects. Our results demonstrate we’re a world class PMO.
