PROJECT: Sellafield Ltd: Project Delivery Directorate

HSSE is at the heart of everything Sellafield Ltd does. The safe and secure stewardship of the site, reduction of high hazard and risks, care for the environment and employee and partner wellbeing is vital.
This has been tested significantly in the last few months, with the complexity added by the Covid-19 pandemic. Sellafield Ltd has responded to lockdown and to controlled restart in a way that maintains safe, secure stewardship of the site.
In addition, Sellafield Ltd has delivered a number of HSSE achievements in its complex project delivery this year, developing ever more robust controls and continuous improvement.

This entry has been prepared based on the research work undertaken by the author at Cranfield University in 1993 and the subsequent project management experiences gained over the past 25 years on major International multinational high value projects.
Most of which were in the Gulf region. The submission showcases a Project Control System developed by the author that takes a risk based approach to managing the primary success criteria as per the APM and PMI bodies of knowledge. The tool is a web based system able to be accessed from mobile devices which significantly improves the successful delivery of HSSE.
PROJECT: Coalo: Social value programme

Founded in 2017, Coalo is wholly owned by the London Borough of Hounslow. Coalo has a public sector heritage, but a private sector management approach. Social value is at the heart of what we do. Our name, Coalo, means sustain and nurture in Latin. Our aim is to improve the social, economic, and environmental well-being of the areas where we operate.
Sarah Gardner programme manages all the strategic programmes for the company and is responsible for managing the social value programme. She has been instrumental in driving this programme forward and is a strong advocate of social value, having several voluntary roles including being a trustee of a charity and vice-chair of a not for profit board. Sarah was also shortlisted for the Chartered Manager of the Year award 2020.

I am nominating my project team for its innovative approach to HSSE in the light of Covid-19 restrictions, and for its success in ensuring no delay to the project was attributable to the Covid-19 crisis, as well as for the exceptional incident rate, phenomenal effort, collaborative skill and work ethic of the entire team in securing this success and all of our safety, and the positive steps taken to take care of our mental health during these unusual times.
