PROJECT: Emma Simpson (Highways England)

Emma joined Highways England in 2017 on our graduate programme, taking every opportunity to learn and develop. We have really challenged her with some difficult project work and situations, which she’s approached with a clear and open approach, building constructive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

Emma became Assistant Project Manager in September 2019, running her own scheme and is now deputising for the lead Project Manager on a nationally significant infrastructure project. Emma takes clear ownership and sets direction to achieve her professional goals. At 25, Emma has reached significant achievements in her career already, deservedly earning this nomination for Young Project professional of the Year.



PROJECT: Stephanos Perikleous (BAE Systems)

Achieving the full Certificate of Safety for Explosives at Sea for HMS Trent contractor sea trials, a first for the Offshore Patrol Vessel programme at BAE Systems: Naval Ships.

Key deliverables for achieving the certificate included completely outfitting the munitions storage compartments and munitions transportation routes, and testing & commissioning the supporting services to appropriate schedule, cost & quality.


PROJECT: Calum O’Keefe (Rolls-Royce PLC)

This project successfully launched an Availability Services facility, subcontract support and processes to perform a suite of availability services to relieve pressure in a constrained network. This innovative solution delivered towards maintaining a healthy fleet of available and serviceable assets for Rolls-Royce as demand on keeping our customer’s fleet flying increased.

The result of the project saw faster turnaround time of engines back into the fleet, improved product quality, and a cost benefit to the business. This project has led the way as a template and innovative solution for other regions across the globe that follow similar issues.


PROJECT: Joe Ramsbottom (Thales UK)

Joe Ramsbottom delivered a major phase of Thales’ signalling system deployment as part of TfL’s 4 Lines Modernisation (4LM) project - which is the c.£800m upgrade and modernisation of the Circle, District, H&C and Metropolitan lines. The phase required a full suite of requirements definition, design/product development, build and onsite construction.

This was required to be delivered to seamlessly ‘underlay’ the Thales system with existing Network Rail infrastructure on the Metropolitan Line, to provide signalling interoperability to both London Underground and Network Rail trains. This ultimately culminated in successful Christmas 2019 construction closure.
