A business approach for the use of drones in the engineering & construction industries

Riddel Hall, 185 Stranmillis Rd, Belfast BT9 5EE

The engineering and construction industries are based on the human relationships between many project stakeholders to achieve delivery excellence.

Enhanced processes and digital tools cannot replace people, either as individuals or teams, but they are required to increase quality, reduce costs, mitigate safety risks and improve decision making.

Drones, more accurately described in a business context as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), present increasingly attractive opportunities for achieving these goals.

This presentation will discuss current legislation and standards, pending changes in regulations, special permissions, the practical uses of drones, types of aerial platforms and specialist applications.

There will also be a display of several aerial platforms.

3D laser scanning, BIM integration will be discussed and how drones can enhance and supplement these services.

Andrew Murray is the Director of Operations at Ventralis Limited, a drone surveying company. Over the last ten years, Andrew has provided GIS and ecology services to large scale infrastructure and conservation projects across the UK and Ireland. Andrew’s interest in drones was driven by the need to increase efficiencies and accuracies in large environmental projects, but has now expanded to include services for a wide range of clients.

Niall Mulvaney is a building surveyor specialising in 3D laser scanning and high definition data acquisition from UAVs. Niall has worked for a wide range of clients, both in the private and public sector, and prides himself on the accuracy and consistency of his work which includes measured building surveys, land surveys & mapping, and site engineering services.

Our passion is the development of new drone systems and workflows to suit the ever expanding and diversifying survey and inspection industry. We work closely with our clients to understand their application, and to design and develop data acquisition solutions to meet their needs. We also offer advice on any special permissions that may be required to facilitate non-standard drone operations.

This event is suitable for professionals with any level of experience.
