Governance Unseen or Obscene
An APM Governance SIG virtual meet up
Many Sponsors work hard creating well defined governance process, policy and structures in order to drive better outcomes in projects and programmes.
Good governance structures also account for both escalation at appropriate times and anticipate that the extraordinary can and may happen. Effective governance takes account of the appropriate level of scrutiny, seniority and resource. Despite this ability to create governance that is purposeful and structured a Sponsor can at times find that decisions are being proposed, discussed and agreed outside of these arrangements. The formal meetings can become for ratification of decisions that have already happened within the circles in a business or group where the power lies.
This session will examine what unseen or obscene governance looks like in specific project environments.
Are you a project management professional with a focus on governance and looking to engage with similar professionals?
APM Governance SIG volunteer and former committee member Carol will be leading this meet up, giving participants the chance to interact with each other and swap experiences. This conversation will provide an opportunity to socialise virtually and is a great way to network with governance professionals.
There is a limit on the number places available due to the format of the event (virtual) and ideally open to those with a governance focus.
This conversation evening is suitable for professionals with any level of experience.
Carol Deveney is the founder and managing director of See Change International Consulting Ltd.
Carol is a transport and project sponsorship consultant and sponsor coach. She has held head of profession and vice president roles of Sponsor divisions in the UK and internationally in the transport sector. She has led on a variety of projects and programmes and at varying levels of seniority, including director and vice president level.
Carol combines a background in sponsoring infrastructure projects and change programmes with coaching and leadership development gained in complex, high value environments. She is an ambassador for sponsorship as a successful approach to dealing with ongoing ambiguity in projects and leading the delivery of benefits.
Carol has been accountable for audit and assurance of a capital investment portfolio in excess of £34bn. She has peer reviewed several major programmes and projects with a focus on achieving benefits, open dialogue and behavioural observations as enablers of good governance.
Carol has a Post Grad in Business and a BA Business and Management and is dual qualified in Environmental Management and Occupational Health & Safety.
