Managing a media crisis and branch AGM

Nineteen19 Suite, East Stand, Leeds United Football Club, Elland Road, Leeds, LS11 0ES

APM Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire branch would like to invite you to an entertaining evening with Stephen Carver who will give a presentation on how to manage a media crisis when things have gone badly wrong.  The presentation will give clear insights and responses that will help you take control and not to then make a catastrophe out of a crisis.

BP and Volkswagen are two examples of how organisations can blow billions by handling a crisis badly. As project manager professionals, we love to plan the work then work the plan, but what do we do when things go wrong and the media take an unhealthy interest in your project?

As well as lecturing on project and programme management (PPM), Stephen has also run the Crisis Management course at Cranfield School of Management for 18 years and has put hundreds of project professionals through Press Conferences – the “kill rate” is normally 90% foot in mouth/reputation shredded within 3 minutes – we have a lot to learn!

Stephen Carver, a seasoned raconteur and much sought after speaker whose unique story-telling style makes him a firm favourite with audiences, will demonstrate how and help us develop our own skills.

Stephen is repeatedly rated as one of the top lecturers at Cranfield School of Management where he lectures in PPM. He has hands on experience in almost all business sectors from banks to oil and from construction to law firms. Stephen has a reputation of taking complex management concepts and being able to distil them down into highly informative and fun lectures. He often uses fast paced and highly entertaining 'storytelling' techniques as a way of conveying information and ensuring it is retained for the future.

Unusually, for an academic, he has actually spent most of his working life in real business and still undertakes management assignments for many global organisations. His attitude is 'if you haven't done it - you shouldn't be teaching it!'

This presentation is suitable for professionals with any level of experience.

News articles and further information can be found on the branch community page.
