NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme governance
An APM Governance SIG virtual meet up
The success of NHS Covid 19 vaccine programme has been well documented and heralded. But what are the lessons that we can learn from a programme governance perspective in a crisis? And what of these lessons can we / must we apply to “normal” programmes?
It was in March 2020 that the UK’s chief scientific advisor Sir Patrick Vallance decided to act on a thought that vaccines might provide the only way out of the coronavirus pandemic. The focus of government at that time was on providing the correct PPE and getting Test and Trace sorted out. Sir Patrick thought we needed to start thinking about vaccines as the medium- to long-term solution, so he brought together a vaccine expert advisory panel of academics, clinical specialists and industry experts.
The success of the NHS vaccine programme has been well documented and heralded. But what are the lessons that we can learn from a programme governance perspective in a crisis? And what of these lessons can we / must we apply to “normal” programmes?
In this session Nick will provide his account and key governance lessons of leading the government’s programme to urgently secure and deliver COVID-19 vaccines. Please do register to join what will be an insightful and discussive virtual session on governance good practice in action.
Are you a project management professional with a focus on governance and looking to engage with similar professionals?
APM Governance SIG committee member Nick will be leading this virtual meet up, giving participants the chance to interact with each other and swap experiences. This conversation will provide an opportunity to socialise virtually and is a great way to network with governance professionals.
There is a limit on the number places available due to the format of the event (virtual) and ideally open to those with a governance focus.
This conversation evening is suitable for professionals with any level of experience.
Nick Elliott, now a director at Turner & Townsend, was asked to move from his role as deputy chief executive of Defence Equipment & Support in the Ministry of Defence to take on the role of director general (DG) of the Vaccine Task Force (VTF) and senior responsible owner (SRO) of the vaccine programme.
