Thames Valley branch PM Challenge finals night 2017

Hilton Reading, Drake Way, Reading RG2 0GQ

Join us for this year's Project Management Challenge Finals Night - celebrating the finest early career project managers in the region.

The APM Thames Valley branch PM Challenge is an annual competition now in its sixth year. The competition provides unrivalled exposure to the real-life demands of the profession by challenging early career project managers to develop and manage their own projects under the guidance of seasoned project mentors.

The themes of this year's competition are 'Innovation' and 'Collaboration' and the 11 competing teams are expected to evidence these topics throughout their project lifecycle. Following the judges' thorough consideration of each team’s competition deliverables, four finalist teams are elected to take to the stage in the Finals Night event, when they will present their projects from planning stages to delivery - after which the judges and the audience will decide the winners.

At the end of the evening winners will be announced and a presentation of trophies will take place. Categories for this year's prizes include: Best Overall Project; Best Presentation (delivered on the night and decided by the audience!) and the winner of the Best Poster competition.

The non-finalist teams will also be showcasing their hard work and creativeness by displaying posters of their projects, with the winning team being presented with an award.

Guests can expect an evening of lively and engaging insight from our ambitious competitors and special guest speaker, Eddie Obeng. There will be ample opportunities to network with delegates over hot food and refreshments - a glass of prosecco will also be available to each guest upon arrival.

This promises to be a great night and ideal for corporates, students or anyone interested in the early stages of a career in project management. We hope to see you there!

We are delighted to welcome renowned TED educator, author and entrepreneur, Professor Eddie Obeng as the guest speaker at this year's awards.

Unless you have been holed up in a cave recently you will have noticed the growing demand for projects that are delivered more quickly and with greater flexibility. But, in an increasingly complex and uncertain world, delivering ‘more of the same’ is not enough. Projects must evolve and realise new benefits in new ways. They must rely on the ability of many people, often working in different organisations and geographically distant, to work together and deliver outcomes.

During his 30 minute talk, Prof Eddie Obeng, renowned for his thought-provoking and energetic talks on business change and innovation, will take you on a lyrical voyage - to help you collaborate with others and deliver innovation. Using examples and models from his latest book, he will explain how to accelerate innovation whilst maintaining the integrity of projects - and how to use methods such as ‘working-out-loud’ to ensure record levels of collaboration.

He will help you discover how to become a winning project leader or team by changing how you think and work, and will leave you with some clear and memorable takeaways for your project management career.

Prof Eddie Obeng will use examples and models from his latest book 'Who killed the spark of innovation?' in his talk. Prof Obeng is an honorary fellow of APM.

We are delighted this year's PM Challenge is sponsored by 20|20 Business Insight and we look forward to welcoming them to Thames Valley.

The event is suitable for professionals with any level of experience.
