Tour de France - Grand depart

Tour de France 2014: The 'grandest' of Grand Departs.  An estimated 2.5m people per day lined the route over the weekend as 'Le Tour' took in some of the county's most famous sights and landmarks with 198 riders speeding through the county’s cities and towns.   Christian Prudhomme TDF race director hailed the weekend as being "beyond his wildest imagination".

The presentation will cover the programme office’s experience of enabling the delivery of the three UK stages of Tour de France 2014.   How it played an integral role in providing the overarching programme management and governance approach to bring together 15 geographically dispersed local authorities, 2 national parks and blue light services. Building relationships and collaborative working on a scale never seen across the region before. It will share details of the key issues experienced, economic and social benefits generated as well as practical lessons learned.

During event time both Jill and Craig took on operational roles as part of the events command and control structure. The presentation will share details of how their core project management skills prepared them for acting as Gold and Silver Chief of Staff supporting strategic and tactical issue resolution.

Jill Gough, Head of Programme Leeds City Council and seconded into the company TDFHub2014 created by UK Sport to deliver the three UK stages of the event. Acting as Director of the Programme Office working as part of the company’s senior leadership team driving forward the business as well as leading on the Programme management of this complex event. During event time Jill acted as Gold Chief of Staff resolving real time issues working closely with the Blue Light and Event Gold Commander.

Craig Taylor, Head of PMO West Yorkshire Combined Authorities (WYCA) was seconded into the company TDFHub2014 created by UK Sport to deliver the three UK stages of the event acting as Programme Manager. During event time Craig acted as Silver Chief of Staff resolving real time issues working closely with the Blue Light and Event Silver Commander.
