On the 25th of February 2010 the APM Wessex Branch held their first black tie dinner at HMS Nelson, the Royal Navy wardroom at Portsmouth. Around 70 people attended to hear Colonel David King OBE of the Royal Marines provide the perspective of a senior Royal Marines officer who managed the political, international, socio-economic and other risks during the recent completion of the UK mission in Basra.

Colonel Kinghas most recently served as Chief of Staff in Basra. He planned and supervised the successful handover of southern Iraq and subsequent recovery of UK forces (2008-09), in recognition of which he was appointed OBE.
