Charles Cross presented to Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire branch in February 2010 on communicating with non project professionals.

In particular, looking at why so many programme/project managers feel isolated and unsupported? Projects can sometimes be seen as an intrusion, with stakeholders thinking they dont get it, do they?

Charles asked why so many projects deliver outputs that are not fit for purpose.  In response to this the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) have interviewed the SROs of most major programmes across Government and published the findings as the 10 Causes for Delivery Confidence.

During the presentation, Charles looked at the role of the stakeholder and the possible classifications of stakeholders, which include, saviour, irritant, sleeping giant and time bomb!

The presentation focused on people and relationship management and provides hints and tips for future project success.

Charles closed the evening with this quote from APM President Martin Barnes CBE:

Project Management at its most essential is about people working together to get things done.
