Do you want to make a difference?

The APM’s former Chief Executive, Andrew Bragg, often referred to the Governance SIG as the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the association’s member activities.  We believe this was not only due to the range of guides that the SIG has developed (such as Directing Change) but due to the emphasis the SIG places on outreach to other professions and groups who have a role to play in the governance of projects and project management.  It chimes with the association’s vision that “all projects succeed.”

On 10th June the Governance SIG is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) immediately before the evening session on the Programme Governance at Heathrow.

The AGM will involve the Chairman’s review of the past year’s activities and an overview of the aspirations and plans of the SIG for the next year and beyond.  The AGM also involves electing committee members.  The SIG has been blessed by having the continuity of long standing committee members who contribute their time, energy and intellect to further the work of the SIG.  However, we want to practice what we preach and are seeking new talent to join our SIG committee and help with our succession.

What do we look for in committee members?

  • An interest and a passion for governance
  • Some relevant experience (though it’s not necessary for you to be an expert!)
  • Eagerness to get involved
  • Inquisitiveness
  • Public spirit

What do we expect from SIG Committee members?

  • Help with specific aspects of the SIG plan (e.g. organising events, outreach, developing guidance, newsletters, research) or any other help you can offer
  • Best endeavours to attend our monthly committee meetings (2 hours, every 2nd Wednesday) in person or by conference call.
  • To be an advocate for good governance

So what’s in it for you?

  • Opportunity to influence the development and dissemination of governance guidance and practice
  • Learn from fellow committee members and SIG guests
  • Earn CPD points whilst attending committees and undertaking committee work
  • Gain recognition for your commitment to the profession

Could that be you?  If so, then throw your hat into the ring  by completing the self-nomination form by 3rd June and come along to our AGM!

If you want to know more, then please contact any of the current committee members listed on the APM website.

Governance SIG committee member

Agility to succeed

4 October 2016

Agile refuses to analyse requirements beforehand – and thus declines to provide an initial certainty. This will probably always scare any stakeholder trying to understand whether or not they can show results to the board with the budget that they are granted.

You have a choice. You can either muddle on, stand firm and fix it – or look elsewhere.
