The National Infrastructure Commission (NIC), the independent body which provides impartial advice to Ministers on the UK’s long-term infrastructure needs have recently launched a consultation on the National Infrastructure Assessment (NIA) regarding the process and methodology it proposes to use for the Assessment.

The NIA will analyse long-term infrastructure needs, outline a strategic vision over a 30-year horizon and set out recommendations for how these long-term needs should begin to be met. These recommendations will be made within the context of a fiscal remit set by the Government.

The Commission will publish a single National Infrastructure Assessment each parliament. This will recommend how the UK’s infrastructure needs should be met.

The Association For Project Management (APM) urges members, the wider project management community and those with an interest in UK infrastructure to participate in its online survey which will run throughout July and will help inform APM’s submission of evidence.

Participation is important – the Assessment will be used by Ministers as key information when they take decisions as to which projects get permitted. So it’s essential that the NIC’s process for drafting the Assessment is robust and effective. Click here to take part

APM have focused on what we believe are the key questions for members and the project management community based on the length of the original document. The full National Infrastructure Assessment consultation document has further information.

This work follows on from the APM Call for evidence held for the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) and forms part of External Affairs work in developing APM’s role in government relations.
