Knowledge SIG overview:

Our mission:
Inspiring project professionals to deliver meaningful change for societal benefit by providing information and resources on the fundamentals and principles of knowledge management, and advancing the art, science, theory and practice of knowledge management in project environments.

Our objectives:

  • Raise awareness and understanding of knowledge management amongst project professionals.
  • Help APM members and other project professionals understand how to create, share and use knowledge more effectively in project environments (also CPD).
  • Develop our KM in Projects Community as a place to learn about and advance understanding of knowledge management.
Contribute to and help to co-ordinate APM initiatives on knowledge-related matters such as BoK7.
  • Support other APM volunteers (SIGs and branches) in sharing and applying knowledge.

Being a Knowledge SIG committee member:
Our main activities in 2018/19 are writing a SIG guide about KM, developing and supporting a KM in Projects Community (largely online), organising an annual SIG conference, speaking at branch events and contributing to BoK7. We welcome new members who can help us with any of these. We’re not just looking for KM specialists – if you have experience in facilitation of online discussion, using social media, organising events or keeping notes of meetings, we want to hear from you. If you have a passion for KM and frustration with lessons learned databases, even better! We encourage all prospective K SIG committee members to contact us for an informal chat and, if possible, to work with us before joining the committee as an elected member.

We hold a weekly online/phone team meeting to discuss current activities and news – and as a way of maintaining team spirit. We also hold four face-to-face meetings a year. We understand that as volunteers, the time we spend on APM activities is often limited. We don’t expect every team member to join every meeting. We do appreciate it when team members do what they have promised to do and let us know when life or the day job gets in the way.
