TheAPM PMO SIG hosted an international gathering of other PMO SIGs in Central London on Friday 27th June. The IPMA, of which APM is one of 52 member associations, arranged the PMO SIG Summit to bring together specific interest groups from around the globe. The aim of the summit was to bring together key people of all the PMO SIGs to share insights into how their SIGs are run, what their members want and exchanging of ideas with the intention of forming an international network of PMO SIGs.
TheAPM PMO SIG hosted the event which saw representation from Russia, Ireland, Latvia, Germany, Netherlands, Australia and Austria. The daylong session looked at how PMO SIGs can learn from each other in terms of managing a voluntary group such as this, what help can be extended to new and progressing groups and what areas the PMO SIGs can concentrate on to ensure maximum engagement from their members. This was an excellent opportunity for theAPM PMO SIG to meet other like-minded people and to gain an insight into what challenges other countries face and what activities it could potentially arrange to ensure the SIG remains fresh and focused. The Summits aims for the future are to actively encourage ongoing collaboration between member associations and the next meeting will be held at the IPMA Congress in Rotterdam in October 2014.
The UK PMOSIG is currently working on its Autumn conference; contributing to the competency framework refresh which will include PMO and PMO career path work. To join the UK PMOSIG, create an account on the APM website and choose the PMO SIG as a specific interest group preference.
