"Predicting the Future - When Good Just Isn't Good Enough" - The slides attached are those that were presented at the Aberdeen Chapter's AGM on 25th June 2013. Presented by Chris Bird, a past chair of the chapter, they discuss the challenges faced by industry in general, and the oil sector in particular, of delivering large projects in an increasingly difficult environment. Against a background of accelerating requirements for project implementation and a steadily worsening record of large project success, Chris summarised a global business context that would seem only to make things worse. By looking at the key causes of project problems and the main challenges to success, he presented a project delivery model that seeks to overcome these obstacles and thereby to achieve the benefits that we seek from large projects. Chris rounded off by describing a body of research in which he is involved, and which aims to improve further our ability to manage this type of project.
