Nick Brown presented to the East of England Branch in June 2005 on the road to best practice. The presentation focused on learning from experienceand lessons from the front line,standardisingand using the right tools for the job.

In terms of learning from experience Nick communicated the importance of creating a strategy and being clear on who own's thecost management. He emphasised the importance of documenting plans and ensuring they arecompatible.Avoid re-inventing the wheel andrealise the benefits of standardisation.

Lessons from the frontline, looked at focusing on having cleargoals andnot getting lost in the detail. Try to evaluate work processes early andget thoseprocesses in writing. Understand the efforts of ALL the stakeholders.

Nick states thatstandardisation will help to promote consistency, familiarity andoptimise resources in any project or programme.

This presentation isdetailed and the case study used is an excellent source for which Nick conveys his points. Nick also suggestshow to approach standardisation.
