On the 14th September 2011 in conjuction with the North East branch, the APM Contracts and Procurement SIG held the event entitled What is the NEC3? in Newcastle.

The session was led by SIG Chairman Jon Broome and he explained that the NEC family of contracts facilitates the implementation of sound project management principles and practices as well as defining legal relationships.

He went on to say that it is suitable for procuring a diverse range of works, services and supplies, spanning major projects through to minor works and purchasing of individual supplies and goods and that the implementation of NEC3 contracts has resulted in major benefits for projects both nationally and internationally in terms of time & cost savings and improved quality.

Dr Broome has been involved with the development of the NEC since 1993 and is an acknowledged expert and accomplished presenter on it. All delegates received a free contract of their choice from the NEC3 family (worth between 15 & 30) and 6 months Bronze membership of the NEC Users Group giving them free copies of 2 newsletters and training at reduced prices.

The slides from the event can be downloaded below.
