Martin Paver

Martin Paver is a Registered Project Professional and Chartered Engineer. In Dec 2017 he established the London Project Data Analytics meetup, which now has 1700 members. He also set up Project:Hack, the first event was sold out within 2 weeks. Martin has had a range of experience including leading a $billion project with a team of 220 and a multibillion PMO with a team of 50. He has a detailed grasp of project management and combines this with a broad understanding of recent developments in the field of data science. He is on a mission to ensure that the project management profession readies itself for a transformed future.

 

Synopsis: Machine learning and AI: An opportunity or a threat to a career in P3M?

This session will explore how AI, machine learning and advanced data analytics will impact the future of the PMO. Martin will draw on his experience acquired from leading a billion-dollar project, multi-billion dollar PMO and founding the London Project Data Analytics meetup. He draws on this wide breadth of experience to consider the future for P3M professionals, particularly those working in the PMO.

Within a recent webinar Gartner forecast that by 2030, 80% of the work conducted by project management professionals will be performed by machines. Martin Paver will explore whether this is fact or fiction, working through P3M roles one by one and examining how they will be impacted by new methods.

Lessons learned don’t work; why a data centric approach may hold the key

Lessons learned processes are a key part of project management and feature in the body of knowledge. Instinctively, we know that the principles are sound, but most organisations struggle with the execution. Martin has collated a dataset approaching 20,000 lessons learned and has concluded that the approach doesn’t work. Is it time to abandon them and try something new? 

 He believes that the answer lies in the connected data emerging from the exhaust plume of project delivery and leveraging tailoring insights using the latest concepts in machine learning. Situation based probabilistic insights at the point of need. 

 Such an approach has the potential to transform project management forever.
