Paul Atkinson

Paul is a highly accomplished executive with extensive experience operating at a senior level. He has an excellent track record in leading and developing high performing teams as well as a proven track record in operational management and transformational change and execution. Paul is responsible for leading transformational change and delivering outstanding business performance, using data to deliver solutions and align decision making. He is a strategic thinker who demonstrates resilience, flexibility and personal drive. Paul's motivational leadership style has enabled him to inspire others to deliver excellent results, whilst maintaining an environment based on honesty, trust and professional integrity.

 

Synopsis: 

The presentation will cover the issues royal mail addressed, due to having an ageing infrastructure that didn’t fit with the mail mix change from letters to parcels, that the market and our customers were driving. Our then shareholder, the government commissioned the Hooper report which told us, as a company that we had to “modernise or die”. We had to upgrade our facilities quickly to allow us to handle increasing parcel volumes which we did with a series of office mergers, extensions and new build facilities. In relative terms building things is easy but we had to bring our people with us on this journey. The challenge was to keep our operation going (building planes in the sky) in a regulated environment, keeping our people with us and engaged whilst delivering to over 26 million households 6 days per week. The presentation will focus on the people risks and issues we faced, the lessons we learned and applied on the journey and the outcomes.
