Dave Underwood is Deputy Director of High Performance Computing Programme at the Met Office. He joined the Met Office in 1998 as Head of Civil Aviation – following 14 years with the Civil Aviation Authority; where he started as a research scientist and latterly moved into research management and business development.
In 2003 Dave became Group Head of Public Sector Business at the Met Office responsible for Met Office services to all UK Government Departments and Agencies. In 2006 he took up the role of Deputy Director of first Technology (Development) and then in 2009 Technology and Information Services (Development + Operations).
In 2013 Dave moved to his current role where he is leading the acquisition, implementation, and exploitation of the largest ever investment in Met Office supercomputing.
