Jeremy Harrison is Director Risk & Assurance, at HS2 Ltd, the company set up to build the new high speed rail network in the UK. He is responsible for leading; risk management, assurance and insurance across the company and programme.
He has worked in risk management for nearly 25 years. He led early developments pioneering safety risk thinking in British Rail. He has led risk across safety, projects and corporate, in the rail industry. He has been responsible for setting the standards and providing the support for risk management and value management, across infrastructure projects in Network Rail.
Jeremy has received a number of industry awards including Risk Professional of the Year at the CIR Awards. He is a certified Fellow, past Deputy Chair and for a period interim CEO of the Institute of Risk Management. He is a chartered member of IOSH. He has held visiting academic roles at both Warwick Business School, UCL and more recently at Said Business School Oxford for the Major Projects Leadership Academy programme.
He is a passionate pioneer of new thinking, pushing to improve risk thinking through creativity and knowledge management.
Session title: High Speed 2
Synopsis: The key national infrastructure High Speed 2 (HS2) project, its scale, structure and scope will be described. The risk management challenges for the project are significant including major challenges from public and private stakeholders and environmental interests and these will be outlined. The approach of this HS2 draws upon lessons from the past in order to so it will do even better in the future and avoid repeating previous mistakes. Finally, the risk management approach will be described covering the risk process and beyond.
