Milla Mazilu

Milla began her railway career in 2005, initially working with Union Railways on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (HS1) then with Network Rail, the railway infrastructure owner and operator for Great Britain. Prior to 2005, Milla worked in the insurance industry, specialising in regulatory compliance.

Milla has spent the last decade focusing on programme controls, planning, scheduling, and integration in the railway industry.  Notably, between 2009 and 2013, Milla was the programme controls planning and scheduling lead on Network Rail's programmes for National Electrification and National Grid Supply Point, where she developed the integrated planning strategy prior to the handover to regional design and delivery teams.

Since 2013, Milla has been the programme controls lead in Network Rail’s programmes for the deployment of Traffic Management (TM), European Train Control System (ETCS), and European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS); here, Milla’s focus has been on enhancing the department's abilities to develop innovative and integrated planning strategies.

Milla is a keen volunteer, having supported the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways as a permanent way worker, and the London Olympics and Paralympics as a travel champion.

Recently, Milla has become increasingly involved with her professional association, the Association for Project Management, beginning her involvement with the Planning, Monitoring & Control SIG in 2014 and becoming the group’s chairman in 2016.

Milla was also elected as a charity trustee of the Association for Project Management in November 2016 where, alongside non-executive Board duties, Milla also serves on the committees for Audit & Assurance (as deputy chairman), Advocacy & Nominations (as deputy chairman), and Professional Standards & Knowledge.

Milla’s most controversial foibles are an aversion to social media, and a delight in the use of the Oxford comma.
