Special Recognition Award 2021

APM does not present the Special Recognition Award each year – it is only given to organisations, individuals or projects that have gone above and beyond to provide significant benefit to society using the power of project management in any given year.

NHS Charities Together, for their response to the Covid-19 Pandemic

In 2021, in light of the challenges faced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, we felt it only right to reward an organisation that had used project management to provide support where it is most needed. That’s why this year we presented a unique special recognition award to NHS Charities Together, for their swift and effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The organisation evolved from a team of just four people to 36 to enable the organisation to deliver it’s Covid-19 Urgent Appeal, the most successful fundraising campaign of all time. The organisation has since allocated £140 million supporting over 600 projects, including over 400 projects benefitting the mental health of NHS staff.

Ellie Orton OBE, Chief Executive at NHS Charities Together, said: “We are so thrilled and honoured to receive this award from APM. As an organisation we have undertaken a huge transformation over the last 18 months, which has allowed us to make an incredible difference to NHS staff, patients and volunteers across the UK – and we are so grateful for everyone’s support.

“With the pandemic’s impact expected to last for many years, our help is more important than ever. Together we can provide the extra support needed in hospitals, ambulance teams, community and mental health care, and help our health service to go further – now and in the future.”
