About this book

Description

Politics influences far more than governments — it shapes our relationships, workplaces and the environments in which projects are delivered. This guide helps project professionals understand the role of political awareness in navigating complex organisational dynamics. It covers:

  • What “project politics” means and why it affects every stage of delivery
  • How formal and informal power dynamics influence decisions and progress
  • Ways to anticipate, plan for and mitigate political behaviours that could derail outcomes
  • Techniques for managing emotionally charged situations and refocusing on objectives
  • Practical tools to address common political challenges within projects, programmes and portfolios

By developing political awareness, project managers can better navigate competing interests, strengthen stakeholder relationships and improve the likelihood of successful delivery.

Author: Nukey Proctor
Nukey Proctor is an accomplished digital and technology leader with around 20 years’ experience of project delivery, change and transformation spanning multinational corporations, public sector organisations and executive board membership.

In 2024, she was recognised as the Project Delivery Lead of the Year at the Women in Tech Awards, highlighting her excellence in leading complex, digital transformation programmes. Beyond her professional roles, Nukey holds extensive governance experience through her third-sector work in organisations such as Grapevine Coventry and Warwickshire, Castle Phoenix Trust, Brightside Mentorship and Warwickshire Pride.

Her commitment to public service is further reflected in her political background: she served as a parish councillor from 2019 to 2023, is an alumna of the Activate Collective and has been a parliamentary and local elections candidate on multiple occasions.
