Our future Chartered Project Professional assessment
The future of how we assess our Chartered Project Professionals is being built, ready for launch in 2027.
This is part of our ongoing focus to maintain the standard and value for those who hold ChPP and to ensure our assessment holds the rigor, objectivity and accessibility our profession demands.
The new assessment will:
- Future proof our assessment to ensure we harness technological advances whilst maintaining quality competence testing.
- Enhance global accessibility to support all project professionals towards ChPP.
- Continue to offer each applicant the same excellent experience to support their application.
Following the successful recruitment of a diverse and broad range of candidates, our new assessment will be piloted this spring.
Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in being part of this pilot. If you have any questions, about your application please contact our team.
What’s new?
- The chance to showcase your technical knowledge and professional practice in a more intuitive way.
- Fairness and rigour are at the heart of the new assessment to ensure that high standards are maintained.
- Improved journey thanks to clear objectives at every stage and new support materials we've levelled the field to ensure everyone can access ChPP.

Frequently asked questions
If I pass the pilot assessment; will I gain ChPP status?
Yes, if you are successful in passing the pilot assessment, you will be awarded ChPP status. The only caveat to this is if the pilot assessment is deemed invalid; then we would need to void all assessments and refund candidates.
What happens if the pilot is unsuccessful or doesn’t meet the standard?
If this happens, we will refund all pilot candidates their fee and unfortunately void the results.
Will those who currently hold Chartered Project Professional status have to take the new assessment to keep ChPP status?
No, those who have already gained ChPP status only need to meet the requirements for renewal of their Chartered status, they will not need to retake the assessment.
We are however seeking current Chartered Project Professionals to sit our pilot assessment so we have the best insight possible into how it compares to our current assessment.
What are the Terms of Reference for the pilot?
Full Terms of Reference can be found here.
What is the reason behind the update for the assessment?
We’re updating our chartered assessment to:
- Future proof our assessment to ensure we harness technological advances whilst maintaining quality competence testing.
- Enhance global accessibility to support all project professionals towards ChPP.
- Continue to offer each candidate the same excellent experience to support their application.
Will the assessment you are piloting be any more or less difficult than the current one?
The standard and competences the assessment is based on will remain the same so there will be no change in what’s being sought from the assessment.
I’ve started an application under the current assessment; what are my options?
There is no way of transitioning between the current and pilot assessment. However, the competencies and standard are the same. If you have paid, and are underway with your current submission, we’d recommend continuing with this.
If you work for an organisation and are part of a cohort; please speak to your cohort manager.
My submission on the current assessment was unsuccessful; what are my options?
As the assessment is a different format, you are welcome to either start a new application for the pilot assessment, taking all parts of the assessment and paying the full fee for the pilot, or continue with your current assessment, resitting the parts you need to.
Is the fee paid in February refundable?
The fee is non-refundable, however before choosing to proceed with the pilot, we hope you have had a chance to view all materials so you can assess if it is right for you.

A full transition plan between our current and new assessment will be published on the completion of our pilot and review of its findings. This will be in 2027. The requirements, knowledge and competencies will not change only how you are assessed.
Mentors
Thank you for continuing to support those who are applying for ChPP. There will be no impact on the current application process in the near future so please continue doing the same great work.
