APM Education and Research Awards Steering Group Members

The APM Education and Research Awards is an annual awards programme which celebrate achievement in the early careers and academic area of the project profession. With a wide range of categories, the Awards showcase the best new talent, acknowledge the contribution of academics, and recognise excellence in research outputs.

This volunteering opportunity plays an important role in our Education and Research Awards process.  This advisory role, provides advice and recommendations to ensure the integrity, fairness and robustness of the APM Education and Research Awards judging process, including advising on finalists and winners, and on improvements to categories, criteria and rules.

Volunteer role

APM Education and Research Awards Steering Group (ERASG) Member

Purpose 

The Education and Research Awards Steering Group and its members play an advisory role, accountable to the APM Events Team, providing advice and recommendations to ensure the integrity, fairness and robustness of the APM Education and Research Awards judging process, including advising on finalists and winners, and on improvements to categories, criteria and rules.

Eligibility 

  • Aged 18 years or over
  • Paying APM member
  • Able to attend online meetings within UK office hours (09.00 – 17:00)
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in project and/or programme management, across a number of industries
  • Ideally have awards/judging experience
  • Completion of APM volunteering onboarding will be required
  • ERASG members cannot apply to be a judge or entrant for the awards during tenure

Expectations

  • Review and scrutinise judges’ scores and feedback to advise finalists and winners
  • Ensure adherence to rules of entry, judging processes and code of conduct ensuring consistency and fairness
  • Discuss, advise and support resolution on:
    • Disputes, appeals and breaches of rules
    • Conflicts of interest and required actions
  • Contribute to discussions and recommendations on:
    • Changes to categories and criteria
    • Improvements to rules of entry
  • Use feedback and insights from previous awards to inform continuous improvement of the Education and Research Awards
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and participate in group discussions
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all discussions and decisions
  • Adhere to:
    • APM Code of Professional Conduct
    • Education and Research Awards Judging Code of Conduct
    • Volunteer policies including conflicts of interest, safeguarding and data protection
  • Support the integrity and reputation of the Awards process

Estimated time commitment 

  • Minimum of three formal meetings per year (October, March, May), plus additional meetings if required (online). ERASG members are expected to attend all meetings
  • Attendance at online judges training (once every three years)
  • Availability by email for correspondence with other ERASG Awards Steering Group members, Awards Moderator and APM Events Team
  • Optional attendance at APM Education and Research Awards ceremony
  • ERASG members appointed for a three-year term, with a maximum of two terms (not necessarily consecutive)
  • Six months’ notice required to step down early

Evaluation criteria 

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in project and/or programme management across a number of industries, and/ or research experience in Project Management field, and/or Project management academic experience.
  • Experience and understanding of APM Awards/judging processes, or willingness to learn
  • Demonstrated commitment, professionalism and active participation in meetings and activities 
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and maintain fairness and objectivity in decision-making 
  • Alignment with APM values, standards and professional conduct
  • Hold one or more of the following for the duration of the role: 
    • APM Associate membership with relevant experience and qualification
    • Full Membership (MAPM)
    • Fellowship (FAPM / HonFAPM)
    • Chartered Project Professional (ChPP)

    • Research representative
    • Academic representative
    • Early careers & corporate representative
  • Ambassadorial representative
  • Membership is voluntary and unpaid.
  • The group operates independently of event logistics, marketing, or operational delivery.
