DSIT Head of Project Delivery Profession

Mark Bradley is the Head of Project Delivery Profession in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. He is also the Deputy Director who leads the Department’s Project and Risk Service. Prior to Joining DSIT in Jan 24 he spent 5 years as the Head of the UKRI Project Delivery Profession which he established. During that time, he brought together professionals from across the 9 research councils and was head of the team that won APM PMO of the year in Nov 23. He instituted a new approach to Major Project Business Cases chairing the UKRI Investment Group which led to £20bn of projects being approved first time by BEIS and subsequently DSIT. Alongside leading the project profession, he has filled the roles of Operations Director for UKRI and Senior Responsible Owner for EU Exit in UKRI.

Prior to joining UKRI, Mark was the Maritime Aviation Programme Director from Jul 15 to Jul 18, responsible for helicopter procurement and upgrade programmes worth over £3.8Bn. The role, based within Navy Command, had responsibility for the delivery of the Wildcat helicopter programme, both upgrade programmes to the Merlin helicopter, the CROWSNEST radar system for Merlin and the Future Anti Surface Guided Weapon programme.

Mark spent 17 years working in Defence Equipment and Support where he developed his project management skills starting as the risk manager for the £6bn aircraft carrier project and including developing a lightweight truck to fire missiles, setting up a legal £6bn missiles cartel, delivering over £200m of surveillance and IT equipment for Afghanistan and leading the artillery team there. The latter role covered everything from large guns and rocket launchers through radars and sensors to high integrity software systems. It also included looking after the historic saluting guns that came into service in 1904!

He started his career as a Naval Architect with BMT Defence Services in 1996

Mark Bradley has a BEng from Southampton University in Naval Architecture, an MSc from University College London in Defence Systems Engineering, is a Chartered Project Professional and Chartered Naval Architect. He is also a member of the Association of Project Managers, the Royal Institute of Naval Architects, the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors, and alumnus of the Major Projects Leadership Academy. He is an Infrastructure and Projects Authority high risk review team leader having supported many reviews over the last 2 decades.

Mark is married with three teenage children. When not providing a taxi service he enjoys cycling and turning bits of wood into sawdust with an array of tools.
