Michelle RichmondMichelle Richmond MBE CEng FIET

Michelle has been a Director at the IET since 2006. It is the UK’s largest professional engineering institution with over 156,000 members awarding professional qualifications, academic accreditations, apprentice end point assessments and CPD learning for members.

Her professional career started with Siemens Plessey Radar as a Principal Microwave Design Engineer and then Radar System Development Manager. She has over 10 years experience of programme management of complex military and commercial projects, working for a range of companies, such as Nokia, Matra Marconi Space and Ubinetics, a PA Consulting Group technology spin-off company.

Michelle was asked by Government to co-ordinate the Employer Group for the development of the new ‘Trailblazer’ Standard for Electrotechnical Apprenticeships.  She pioneered the development of the new standard and award ICT Tech and the UK’s first Contextualised Standard for EngTech for Electricians in 2015 both published by the Engineering Council.

She is a non-executive Director on the Micro:Bit Education Foundation and the SFIA (Standard for the Information Age) Foundation. She is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the IET and in 2019 was awarded an MBE in Queen’s New Year’s Honours list for services to engineering. In 2023 she was made an Honorary Associate of the Engineering Council.

Michelle is passionate about professional recognition for technicians, engineers and project managers.
