A very well attended event, all seats taken and extra needed, a diverse audience with representatives from all sectors to hear PMO SIG Chair and evangelist Emma-Ruth Arnaz-Pemberton talk about PMO.
The talk took us through the roles of PMO in different organisations and how the role is now fully recognised, partly due to the work of the PMO SIG. The roles in Governance, Benefits realisation and strategy are realised now but the sad fact of the average lifecycle of a PMO being 4 years only shows there is a lot to do.
Emma-Ruth is a very lively and entertaining speaker whilst explaining the characteristics of PMOs with anecdotal evidence of each type of behaviour needed. The key fact was ensuring that the PMO should blend with the organisation it works within, and deliver value and work to sell the value it creates to the organisation. She further introduced the concept of Best Fit Practice by creating a Centre of excellence, reporting, controlling and policing as required, there is no universal model.
Questions were limited only by the time available before APM Midlands Chair Roger Garrini thanked Emma-Ruth who was warmly applauded by the attendees. With thanks to Rolls Royce for use of the excellent facility.
